What I've heard about soy milk is that the protein it provides is healthy because as a plant-based protein it doesn't come with the cholesterol and saturated fat that animal proteins do.
One site I found says: "Soy is a complete protein, and soyfoods are rich in vitamins and minerals including folate, potassium and, in some cases, fiber... Recent research suggests that soy may also lower risk of prostate, colon and breast cancers as well as osteoporosis and other bone health problems, and alleviate hot flashes associated with menopause."
Many of the health benefits of soy are said to be derived from its isoflavones which are secondary vegetable substances, and can act as estrogens in the body and have protective functions. Isoflavones remain the subject of many scientific studies.
Another site notes that soy milk is not high in calcium, but assures us that "calcium is easily obtainable from other sources such as sardines, almonds, many beans, and several varieties of green leafy vegetables (like kale and collard greens). Of course, if you are able to handle dairy products, you can get your calcium from yogurt and cheese." Sardines?! Come now, we can do better than that, right?
Well soy milk is not my first choice taste-wise, but I have been known to swear off milk in exchange for soy milk from time to time for a couple of weeks. The moment of weakness and return to milk is usually accompanied by a chocolate chip cookie.

LOL...I only eat choc chip cookies with real, organic milk (though I guess after reading your post, maybe it just tastes better and has no hormones, but still eats bad feed). I figure if I'm going to go all out with something so calorie-laden, its going to taste good! I've always been told that cows are often milked too much and it puts pus and infection into the milk, but in those instances when I have milk and a cookie, I simply don't think about that pasteurized pus and guzzle it down...its a special skill I possess. I usually only drink almond or rice milk because soy is hard for me to digest and I don't know what to think after all that "linked to breast-cancer" news. You should try choc almond milk...not bad! :)
