This bug protects me from roaches!

"Y'know, I've noticed an infestation here. Everywhere I look, in fact. Nothing but undeveloped, unevolved, barely conscious pond scum, totally convinced of their own superiority as they scurry about their short, pointless lives."--Giant cockroach, Men in Black.

I saw this bug on the wall at work.
It gave me a heart attack. I pointed it out to a co-worker walking by. Our conversation:

Me: Check that thing out. Creepy. (I knock it off the wall with my foot.)
Co-worker: Yes, I have been having a lot of them at my house.
Me: (Thinking) I haven't seen them in my house. What's the deal?
Me: (Squashes the bug)
Co-worker: Actually, they are very useful. They are eating all the other bugs in my house.

Turns out, he's right. It's a house centipede and they are eating all the cockroaches and moths in his house. But is it worth it? It's like being friends with a werewolf to keep away the vampires.

Woah! That's really weird looking. Who knew that cockroaches actually had an enemy...My concern these days is an enemy for the enormous funnel spiders I find around my yard! We are also accustomed to having Japanese Beetles on all of our plants. So lovely.

Belen is getting so big—so adorable. Hope you're having a great summer!

ok, so we saw those in GA for the first time this summer and I was totally weirded out--they are disgusting, but so are the roaches--yikes, I don't know which I'd rather have!

We get them in Kentucky. I hate them. I've had nightmares about them. I know they are harmless and eat other bugs but I don't care. I HATE THEM!

Lovely! We had those in PA and I thought surely we were through with them but nope! They live in Iowa, too! I didn't know they eat the other bugs. Worth it? Questionable.
