Today we had an appointment with one of the midwives at UNC where we will be having our sweet baby girl. We heard her heartbeat as usual, all was well there; I have gained 30 pounds in my pregnancy which is more than I had hoped, but not terrible.
There was one upsetting thing though. When the midwife felt the baby she said she is "breech" or in other words, not facing head down. I'm almost 33 weeks along in my pregnancy so there is a great possibility that she will be able to turn in the amount of time left, but if she doesn't, they will schedule a C-section. Holden came out breech when he was born, but I guess they don't allow that anymore, they think it's too risky. I have been preparing for a natural childbirth and the possibility of having to do a C-section was quite jolting. And for some reason it made me worry about our baby which I haven't done much of up until this point; I feel confident that she's very happy and healthy in there. I have made an effort to avoid a fearful way of thinking which can be common in regards to pregnancy and in my opinion unnecessary and counterproductive. Really, she should be just fine in the case that we have to have a C-section, it's just not my most desired outcome, and not what I was preparing for.
In any case, that's the story for today. As time goes on there will be less room for her to turn around in there, but according to Wikipedia "Twenty five percent of fetuses are in the breech position at 32 weeks gestation; this drops to three percent at term. The increasing size of the fetus near term traps the fetus into the head down position normally." Yay for Wikipedia! So we are still hopeful for a natural childbirth. I am doing some exercises to see if I can get her to turn, putting peppermint essential oil on my stomach, Holden is trying to persuade her with coaxing words and jokes... but we're also trusting Heavenly Father to help her arrive safely however she comes. Baby tricks and prayers welcome!

Hello! So good to read about you guys. I'm sure things will be just fine with the baby and the final process. Good to see that you guys are good out there in North Carolina!
Moxibustion and Accupuncture work! Ask your midwife to refer you to someone! I recently saw an episode of birth story where a chiropractor used these methods to turn her baby - and it totally worked!
Secrets out...I read your blog too :) I was really worried about the babies position as well in my last trimester but even in the last few weeks I felt our baby moving around, rotating, and changing positions. I'm excited for you two...it's a crazy and fun experience. Good luck!
Sounds like this will probably work itself out just fine. It's great that you have sucha great attitude about it all. Any names pickded out yet?
You're getting so close! I'm sorry for all the concern you've had about this. You'll be in my prayers, and I just know everything will be ok. We are excited for you two and can't wait to see the little sweetie!
I'm so excited that you're going to have an all natural birth! Wow! You never cease to be an inspiration! I'll remember you in my prayers, but I'm sure everything will turn out fine...especially with jokes from Holden! :D
This is such big news for you! I'm sorry that you even have to think about the possibility. As everyone else, including you said, it will probably be fine, but I'm sad you even have to think about it. I sure love you and you look GREAT!
