Dancers in Liverpool Subway Station

Have you seen this video already? It took place at the Liverpool Street Subway Station in London January '09 where a large group of people broke out into dancing and tried to get those around them to dance as well if possible. It's amazing the impact dancing has on people. It has a great ability to unite and uplift.

Click here to find out how it came about and some reactions of bystanders, and here for some more reactions and people talking with fun accents.

April 29th is the International Day of Dance every year since 1982. It is supposed to be celebrated in a public place where the joy of dance can be shared free of charge with the public.

This year the emphasis is on bringing the 'excluded' into dance; that dance performances are not necessarily exhibitions of extreme physicality, accurate precision, or bursting emotion, they can be celebrations of interaction between performers.

Last year we happened to be in Madrid Spain on April 29th. It was the last day of our trip and we were able to meander around downtown until we found a small plaza where several dance groups were performing. I was thrilled to join in the celebration and grateful to my husband who led the effort of searching it out. Click here for the post about that. This picture is meant to inspire you to find a celebration of the international day of dance in your area... good luck!
